Shantytown, 14-15 June 2018

The Community Conservation Symposium, to be presented by the West Coast Penguin Trust, will be held at Shantytown near Greymouth on Thursday 14th June with field trips to local community conservation projects on Friday 15th June.

Our objective is to support those community groups and individuals involved in conservation on the West Coast, and those hoping to become involved, to work more effectively and efficiently through learning from experts in their fields, from professionals, scientists and practitioners, and through networking – with experts and with each other.

A packed day of presentations at Shantytown will include a broad range of topics from predator control to fundraising and forest ecology to trust governance.  Networking opportunities will be extended through a barbecue social immediately afterwards, generously sponsored by DOC here on the Coast.

Optional field trips are available the following day and will include Cobden restoration, a trapping workshop, the kiwi crèche at Moonlight, and a variety of projects up the Coast Road.
