4Trades Apprenticeships, in partnership with the Dunedin Botanic Garden, is seeking a diligent and organised person who is genuinely passionate about propagation plants to join their growing team. This exciting opportunity is a 12 month, full-time, paid position working in a 6 Star Garden of International Significance that is home to over 6,800 plant species.

In addition to on-job training, this internship position will require some study outside of working hours.  The ability to work methodically, show a strong work ethic and a commitment to learning is a pre-requisite.

To begin a propagation internship the successful applicant will be expected to have a ‘can-do’ attitude and the ability to demonstrate the following skills to a moderate to high level:

  • Literacy and numeracy
  • Written and spoken communication
  • Physical fitness
  • Computer Literate.

Applicants must possess:

  • A full and clean driver’s license is essential
  • A horticultural qualification to Level 4 minimum or a qualification or experience in plant propagation, or in a similar field e.g. botany, ecology, conservation.

In return, you will:

  • Work with and learn from a hard-working and experienced team of horticulturists
  • Work in the new Botanic Garden Plant Propagation Nursery
  • Graduate with the skills and experience to build on your career in plant propagation and nursery management.
