Website Aroha Island Eco Centre

Aroha Island is a 12 ha sanctuary in the Kerikeri Inlet in the beautiful Bay of Islands. It is owned by QEII National Trust and managed by the Aroha Island Charitable Trust. The island provides accommodation and camping facilities for visitors who seek a unique holiday experience, and hosts visitors who wish to enjoy the island’s facilities and see kiwi in their natural habitat.

This is an exciting opportunity for a couple to manage and enhance the Aroha Island, facilities and activities while maintaining its ecological focus. The variety of responsibilities makes the position ideal for two people who work well together, and who have complementary skills. You will possess excellent relationship management skills, be flexible, and have a passion for preserving one of New Zealand’s unique natural environments. You will need to be approachable, friendly, enjoy working with the public and capable of managing a busy small business. You will report to the Charitable Trust Board.

To be successful in this position you will need:

  • Proven management and administration expertise
  • To possess excellent relationship and communication skills, (i.e. able to work with all age groups and nationalities)
  • To manage day-to-day operations of accommodation, camping facilities, retail, and other activities
  • To be physically fit, energetic, and flexible
  • To be able to identify health and safety issues and mitigate risk
  • A current New Zealand driver’s licence.

First aid, Growsafe, and chainsaw certification would be an advantage. Experience in pest control would also be valuable.

We offer full-time year-round work in the Bay of Islands with studio accommodation provided.
