Volunteer Service Abroad
Temporary volunteer position for 1 year

Use your environmental policy experience to support implementation of environmentally responsible practices in West New Britain.

The West New Britain Provincial Administration has identified environmental regulation and compliance as major challenges. There is a need for better coordination between the “protection wing” of the Conservation and Environment Protection Authority and other key stakeholders in addressing environmental challenges and grievances.

You will work alongside the Division of Forestry, Environment and Climate Change staff on the development and implementation of environment and waste management policies. You will also assist the Division in raising awareness of environmental issues. Working with Local Level Governments, you will help prepare climate change impact vulnerability assessments and help the Governments support communities in developing pro-active strategies for livelihood protection (and adaptation) and build them into Development Plans.

This rewarding assignment offers an opportunity share your skills and help protect the environment.

We are looking for a volunteer with:

  • Experience developing and implementing environmental policy and regulation
  • Experience assessing and monitoring air, land, water, and noise pollution
  • Demonstrated ability to consult and engage with community groups and other stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

This is a 1 year role based in Kimbe, West New Britain Province.

VSA volunteers receive a living allowance and accommodation, insurance, and medical costs are provided. Travel arrangements are organised and funded by VSA along with other costs for volunteers and their partners.
