It’s hard to imagine a more interesting job than leading the Department of Conservation’s Operations in the Kauri Coast.

DOC Kauri Coast is charged with managing a large variety of amazing public conservation land including the forests of Waipoua, Mataraua and Waima, nationally significant for their outstanding natural heritage values and the largest remaining tract of kauri-dominant forest.  Waipoua is home of the mighty Tāne Mahuta and Te Matua Ngahere – giant kauri trees that form an iconic experience that numbers of domestic and international visitors seek to enjoy.

The Operations Manager’s focus is to lead the high performing Operations team to deliver high quality conservation outcomes.  The work of the team includes pest control and biodiversity programmes, the maintenance of popular camping grounds and public walking tracks, working alongside our Treaty Partners and community groups, and ensuring we perform to statutory requirements.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Be a great people leader who can shape a culture which values team work, continuous improvement, partnerships with iwi and working with the Kauri Coast community
  • Have some practical conservation management skills
  • Be skilled at inspiring, motivating and directing teams
  • Be willing to commit to the role for a minimum of three years
