Website Waitaki District Council

  • Are you looking for a lifestyle in a district renowned for its recreational opportunities?
  • Are you experienced in parks and reserves operations and maintenance?
  • Do you have a proven record of working effectively with community, delivering projects on time, and providing excellent customer service?

Over the next five years there will be some exciting new opportunities ahead, with Council intending to seek UNESCO Global Geopark Status and, potentially, UNESCO World Heritage Status. This could be your opportunity to be part of some truly exciting and challenging projects.

Waitaki is known for its variety of landscapes including mountains, lakes, rivers and the sea. In the heart of Waitaki is Oamaru, New Zealand’s ‘coolest’ town (according to Lonely Planet), renowned for its Victorian architecture and described by TV show Seven Sharp as New Zealand’s ‘sharpest’ town. It is a great place to live, work and play.

We are looking for a well organised and customer focused Parks Officer to join our team and ensure the upkeep and maintenance of our recreation and forestry assets.

Reporting to the Recreation Manager you will be responsible for coordinating maintenance projects, auditing work undertaken by the Reserves Contractor and completing inspections of Council’s reserves including forestry land and public toilets. You will liaise with neighbours, contractors and other Council staff, respond to customer service requests and provide input into the development of the reserve maintenance work programmes.

The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Parks and Recreation, Property or other related area as well as at least three years technical experience working with open space, property or facilities. You will be a great problem solver and be confident making effective and timely decisions.

If you’re someone who prides themselves on working successfully within a team whilst bringing a positive and willing attitude to your work then we want to hear from you!
