Are you someone who loves the outdoors, has a range of practical skills and enjoys working with people? If yes, then this is the job for you.

The Kāpiti Wellington District has a wide range of recreation and historic experiences, including cycleways, mountain bike tracks, back country tracks, huts, predator free islands and accessible short and day walks.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person to join our delivery team to carry out our recreation and historic maintenance programs across the district.

The focus of this role is to:

  • Maintain visitor facilities including campgrounds, huts, toilets, amenity areas and tracks.
  • Maintain the districts historic infrastructure: Buildings, structures, remnants and archaeological sites.
  • Work with and alongside iwi, volunteers, community groups and the public.

We are looking for a responsible and reliable person who has:

  • A practical background with the ability, skills and physical fitness to safely conduct routine maintenance and building/plant repairs, track construction and maintenance;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work individually and as part of a team with the willingness and capacity to interact, liaise and consult with a variety of people;
  • Fits with the Departments health and safety culture “Injury Free, safe home everyday”
  • A current First Aid Certificate and a current Class 1 drivers licence (minimum requirement – restricted licence and can drive a manual vehicle).
  • A high level of physical fitness and able to spend nights away from home.

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
