Are you someone who has experience in animal pest control, has a high level of fitness and enjoys working in the backcountry? If yes, then this is the job for you.

We have a vacancy in the Project Janszoon Biodiversity team here in Motueka. The focus of this position is to carry out animal pest control in Abel Tasman National Park. We need someone who is an effective team player, is good at communication and has a passion for conservation of New Zealand’s natural flora and fauna.

As a ranger you will be focussed on stoat trapping, rodent and possum monitoring and control, and will have some involvement in different projects including:

  • plant pest monitoring and control
  • ecosystem restoration
  • track infrastructure maintenance

The successful applicant will have:

  • the ability to work well in a small team
  • proven back country experience, working/travelling alone off track in forested terrain
  • a knowledge of animal pest control methods
  • the ability to stay away from home when required
  • an above average level of fitness
  • a current Class 1 drivers licence
  • a current first aid certificate
