Restoration Operations Supervisor

Our mission statement is “To provide high quality and cost-effective ecological information, advice and technical services to enable clients to achieve sustainable management and enhancement of indigenous biodiversity, ecosystems, and resource use.” We specialise in ecological restoration, ecological evaluations and solutions, and biodiversity survey and monitoring, with offices throughout New Zealand and a nation-wide client base. The Company provides high quality ecological information, advice, and technical services to a wide range of clients.

We currently require an experienced Restoration Supervisor, to be based in our Auckland Office, although travel to other parts of New Zealand is occasionally required. In this role you will ensure the field team(s) are suitably resourced, trained and experienced to undertake restoration works to the high standards we expect. You will be: managing field staff; regularly liaising with clients, managers and in house ecologists; internal and external reporting; undertaking internal auditing (quality assurance and health and safety); programming works; managing resources including small machinery, vehicles and agrichemicals; quoting works and preparing tenders; as well as assisting the field teams in their works on the ground from time-to-time.

Any applicants with current Advanced Growsafe/Registered Chemical Applicator, Approved Handler, Site Safe, and First Aid qualifications will have a distinct advantage. A clean full driver’s license and competent in driving manual vehicles is essential. Chainsaw and ATV qualifications would be beneficial.

Applicants must have experience with ecological restoration implementation projects, preferably with a graduate or post graduate tertiary qualification in ecology, conservation or environmental science, and also demonstrate:

  • Health and safety management in the workplace
  • Excellent communication and report writing skills, as well as the use of relevant computer software and GPS units.
  • Excellent supervisory skills
  • Mentoring staff and undertaking/facilitating internal training
  • Pest plant identification and management skills
  • Indigenous plant identification skills
  • Experience in handling herbicides including storage, transport and use in compliance with relevant legislation and best practice
  • Pest animal monitoring and control experience
  • Experience in handling pest animal toxins including storage, transport and use in compliance with relevant legislation and best practice
  • Experience with planning, undertaking and managing restoration plantings
  • Managing detailed work programmes
  • Reporting to internal and external clients
  • Client liaison and project management experience
