Our Regional Parks are much loved and treasured by the people of Auckland and visitors alike, receiving up to 6 million visits a year. They represent the iconic landscapes of the Auckland region and are home to many rare and threatened ecosystems and native species. For many of us, they are places that inspire and define us; places where we seek tranquility and respite in nature, or more active recreation in the bush or on the beach.

We are looking for a Park Ranger to join our Northern Regional Parks team with strong skills and experience in farming.

The Role

As a sector Park Ranger, you will be responsible for supporting the farming operation, by providing sound experience and leadership to the farming team.

You will be responsible for enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences in regional park settings, while conserving and protecting natural and cultural heritage resources. You will also required to contribute to recreation asset maintenance, and working with volunteers and external stakeholders to achieve conservation goals, including undertake animal pest and weed control, re-vegetation programmes and protecting natural and cultural heritage. You will also be involved with visitor and iwi liaison along with fostering and supporting volunteers.

You may be required to work throughout the Northern Sector parks network from time to time and will be required to work weekends and public holidays on a ranger roster system.

What you will bring

Have a strong background and experience in farm management is essential with a minimum of 5 years working on a sheep or dairy farming, also experience in sustainable land management also highly sought after.

You will be a strong communicator and have a passion for working with community groups, families and outdoor recreation activities.

Farm, parks and / or land management qualification(s) or similar would be highly desirable. A current NZ full driver’s licence is required for this position.
