To enable the City Council to identify, maintain and enhance the quality of its natural environment, we are looking for a Senior Ecologist.

In this role you will work as Council’s expert in this field and provide robust ecological and botanical advice to diverse customer groups including City Council staff, elected members and contractors on local as well as regional issues and initiatives.

You will be responsible for managing and conserving the city’s biodiversity values, fostering a culture of continuous improvement to promote awareness of conservation, ecological and botanical issues through education and research.

As a senior member of the team, you will provide coaching and mentoring to other staff, providing sound advice and where necessary, utilising your various industry connections to bridge any gaps in your expertise.

To be successful in this role you will have a Research-based Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in plant ecology or relevant field and extensive experience within a similar environment working with specialist organisations and projects. Demonstrated botanical and plant identification skills in the context of Christchurch and Banks Peninsula is a requirement. You will have excellent communication skills and have the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.

This role can be physically demanding, so you must be physically fit for the outdoors in order to undertake the full duties of this role.
