DOC is changing the way we work, placing more emphasis on working with others effectively so that, together, we can achieve even more conservation. As such, Volunteering has a significant part to play in ensuring the success of our new way of working.

The Volunteering Advisor is part of a national team focused on growing the number of New Zealanders who are aware of, support and actively contributing to conservation.

We are looking for a Volunteering Advisor to play a strong advisory role at the regional level providing specialist advice, capability development and guidance to support regional managers and staff involved in working directly with volunteers and community groups. In addition to the reginal focus the position will play a role in building, maintaining and managing partnerships and relationships that grow conservation volunteering by individuals and organisations at the national level.

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Experience leading partnership programmes that deliver results and advance strategic objectives
  • An ability to think innovatively, advance new practical ideas and approaches to working
  • Excellent collaboration and relationship building skills and a proven ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Volunteering is relevant to all facets of our work so excellent communication skills and a proven ability to draw linkages and work with diverse groups of people across teams is essential

Our aspiration is to significantly increase the number of New Zealanders who value and contribute to conservation in new ways. In Auckland, we are involved in designing an exciting pilot together with Auckland Council to enable communities to drive active participation in nature. If this sounds like something you want to be part of and you think you have what it takes then we would love to hear from you!
