Department of Conservation field-based courses

These field based courses are face-to-face practical courses for anyone that works or wants to work or volunteer in conservation.  They are suitable for volunteers, funding recipients, territorial authority and regional council staff, or members of community groups and trusts.  To attend any of these courses you need to enrol with the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT). The courses are delivered and administered by NMIT in partnership with DOC.

  • Five Minute Bird Count (5MBC) field course
  • Foliar Browse Index (FBI) field course
  • Historic Heritage – Basic Principles training course

  • Weed Management and Monitoring field course
