Princess Gate Hotel, Rotorua City
18 – 20 October 2022
The Council of Australasian Ranger Associations (CORA) and supporting New Zealand rangers, along with The Thin Green Line Foundation (TGLF) and the International Ranger Federation (IRF) are inviting all Rangers and Natural Area Workers to attend the inaugural ‘Oceania Ranger Forum’ planned for this October in Rotorua, New Zealand. Venue is the Princess Gate Hotel, Rotorua City.
Upholding the IRF mission to help ‘Protect Nature’s Protectors’, and working towards the Forum’s theme of ‘Inclusive Conservation’ the CORA Forum organisers are proud to announce this exciting news and we look forward to working alongside the TGLF team to bring this very first Forum of it’s kind, to life.
As the IRF’s regional body for Oceania, CORA’s mission is to unite Oceania rangers and protected area workers to build-on a diverse and dynamic team working towards protecting and making a positive impact on the natural, cultural and recreational resources and places within the Oceania region.
The TGLF protects nature’s protectors by providing vital support to park rangers and their communities who are the front-line of conservation.
The Oceania Ranger Forum 2022 will bring together ranger professionals and conservation workers to discuss topics of common interest and concern, in an international networking and professional development event. It is expected that delegates will be from Australia, New Zealand, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea and possibly other Pacific Islands.
This Forum comes at an opportune time of unprecedented growth in ‘nature conservation’ employment and interest in ‘Jobs for Nature’ in NZ. It aims to develop a sense of career recognition for a workforce that is both passionate and professional.
Registrations for the Oceania Ranger Forum are open and we are looking for interested delegates to register their interest.. Registration fee is $150 early bird fee (to be paid before 31st May, 2022) or $180 full payment thereafter.
While we know that COVID management makes things less certain than normal we are hopeful, based on NZ Government advice, that Quarantine Free travel will be possible by October 2022. In recognition of this, all registration payments made will be refundable should the event be cancelled..
Registration will include:
- Day 1 and 2 presentations/demonstrations at the Princes Gate Hotel, Rotorua with all morning tea and lunches provided,
- Day 1 welcome dinner at Matai Maori Village or other venue (TBA),
- Day 3 field trip (TBA).
An Oceania Ranger Forum booklet, shirt and special gift to commemorate this special occasion.
The theme of the forum will be ‘Inclusive Conservation’, which is appropriate and critical in this day-and-age, where we need to accommodate and balance different visions and expertise for protected area management to achieve socially relevant, economically productive and environmentally sustainable outcomes.
We hope to encourage a range of interesting presenters, sponsors, presentations, workshops, discussions, and field demonstrations over the three days. We are also hopeful that legendary Sean Willmore will make a special appearance to share what’s been going on with the TGLF and how they are supporting Rangers around the world.
REGISTRATION: Please send your expression of interest to attend the Oceania Ranger Forum by sending us:
- Who you are, where you are from/employer/ranger group affiliated with, and how many will be in your group attending.
