Nelmac Kūmānū’s dynamic Aboriculture team has an exciting opportunity for a qualified Arborist, based in sunny Nelson.
We maintain Nelson City Council’s beautiful trees and deliver a mixture of commercial and residential tree work. You will get to work on a range of street, reserve and heritage trees as well as carrying out private work. No two days are the same – we’ll offer you huge variety of work and whether this be with big, medium, or small trees, we’ll work with you to keep you fully challenged and progressing in your career.
We have a range of equipment including a tracked chipper, EWP, excavator with grapple and we utilise cranes and hiabs where appropriate.
Our arborists are all extremely passionate about the work they do. We have a range of skill levels within the close-knit team; there is plenty of knowledge sharing and support amongst this friendly, sociable crew.
Ongoing training is provided at the appropriate skill level to give you the best chance to grow your skills and career.
At Nelmac Kūmānu we pride ourselves with being extremely safety conscious understanding the risks involved working in this field and providing you with modern plant, equipment and quality PPE including protos helmets with comms, and climbing kits to help keep you safe.
Nelmac has a dedicated Traffic Management Team who take care of site safety so one less job for you to do!
Market rates paid relevant to qualifications and experience.

Ideally you’ll have:
- A National Certificate in Arboriculture Level 4
- Minimum of two years’ experience in arboriculture since being qualified
- Class 2 driver’s licence preferable (training can be provided)
- Competence in rope and harness climbing, EWP and SRT operation experience preferred
- A commitment to safe, efficient, quality work
- A general mechanical aptitude
