At Nelmac Kūmānu, it is our responsibility to work with our communities to protect, renew and enhance our environment. Our Conservation Rangers work in and around Nelson / Tasman to nurture our whenua, restoring nature, connecting people and places, reducing environmental impacts whilst developing a sustainable legacy for future generations.
We have a fixed-term opportunity for a Conservation Ranger to carry out a range of hands-on, conservation activities until the end of May 2025. If you have some practical experience in the field, enjoy working as a team and doing physical work outside in all weather conditions, we are keen to hear from you.
For the fixed-term role, you‘ll be involved in various conservation activities including:
- Using light machinery and hand tools such as scrub bars, chainsaws
- Conservation maintenance work around water and wastewater sites
- Planting and after care of plants
- Track work and facilities maintenance
- Large scale revegetation projects
- Long term pest plant control projects
- Assisting Nelmac’s Greenspaces Team with various maintenance activities.
Full training is provided for the various hand tools, light machinery and chainsaws used.
Suitable applicants will have:
- Knowledge in the identification of native plants / pest plants or a keen interest to learn
- Previous practical field experience in conservation, agriculture or forestry
- Ability to use a range of herbicides and be comfortable doing this (full PPE and training provided)
- A current driver’s license and ability to drive a manual
- High awareness and strong commitment to health and safety
- A good level of fitness (we work on steep terrain) and ability to lift heavy loads
- A positive attitude /enjoys physical work and the satisfaction of completing tasks to a high standard.
If you have any track maintenance experience or can operate excavators and have your WTR ticket, we are very keen to hear from you.
