Kō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role
The mahi focuses on implementing practical biodiversity projects in Council parks and reserve in alignment with the Nelson Biodiversity Strategy and Nelson Nature Strategy. You will advocate for and support best practice biodiversity management throughout the Parks network and participate as a part of a waka team to manage Parks and Facility contracts ensuring Nelson City Council and the community receive a high level of service.

Your passion for conservation will complement your operational experience in implementing practical biodiversity projects, such as our revegetation projects (the One Billion Trees programme) across our parks and reserves.
Mahi ngātahi collaboration is critical in this role, you will be able to build strong relationships with your contractors, use your ecology background to advocate for best practice biodiversity management throughout our parks network and will co-ordinate the development of Ecological Restoration Plans (ERP’s) for our priority reserves, and work with iwi to ensure our responsibilities as Kaitiaki o te Whenua, Guardians of the Land.
Additionally you will have the following experience:
- Solid contract procurement and management skills
- Sound understanding and hands on practical experience of restoration ecology projects
- Experience in project management (managing quality outcomes, budgets and risk)
- Excellent relationship building skills with internal and external customers
- Great written and oral communication skills
