Conservation Volunteers New Zealand (CVNZ) is a national, not-for-profit, community-based organisation that is dedicated to involving volunteers and staff in conservation projects for the betterment of Aotearoa’s environment.  Each year we engage thousands of volunteers on meaningful conservation projects across the country as well as delivering training and employment programmes designed to create pathways into future employment in the conservation sector.  By becoming a member of the Conservation Volunteers team, you will be using your passion for conservation to enable this work to continue.

Field Coordinator, Auckland

Conservation Volunteers New Zealand is seeking an experienced Field Coordinator who is passionate about conservation. This person will help with the day-to-day delivery of The Papakura Stream Restoration Project.  This exciting programme is a partnership between Sustainable Business Network, the Department of Conservation and Conservation Volunteers New Zealand.  This one-year programme will be delivered across the various suburbs that are traversed by the Papakura Stream in South-East Auckland. The aim of this visionary programme is to reinstate the mauri across our landscape by restoring mana, ecological connectivity and restoring threatened habitats. This programme is dedicated to the restoration of water quality and ecological functions of the Papakura Stream.

CVNZ will deliver a varied one-year work programme on both public (Auckland Council) and private land. Funding has been granted through the Department of Conservation’s Jobs for Nature initiative.

The Field Coordinator will ideally have an understanding of Te Ao Māori. They will be responsible for supervising two Field Officers. They will have a strong work ethic and will be able to lead from the front. They will have the skills to develop and implement an ecological restoration work programme across various sites.  They will have experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions.  They will have strong communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated time management experience. Problem-solving skills will be highly regarded. They will also have a strong understanding of conservation management methods, together with a genuine commitment to safe work practices.

Essential Qualifications & Experience 

  • Have an sound understanding of conservation management methods and ability to lead practical conservation projects
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills across verbal, written
  • Ability to lead and motivate groups
  • Excellent understanding of conservation practices and methodologies
  • Defensive Driving certificate obtained within the last 5 years (will be part of training)
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate (will be provided as part of the role)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Level 3 (will be provided as part of the role)

This position is full-time, maximum term contract – 12 months located in Auckland.
