We have a great opportunity to combine your love of the outdoors, working in a stunning landscape while being paid by joining our Duvauchelle-based team as field ranger.
About Pest Free Banks Peninsula (PFBP)
At PFBP, our mission is to protect, restore and secure our natural assets by removing invasive predators across Banks Peninsula, Canterbury. Our mahi and lessons directly feed into the larger Predator Free 2050 vision of removing possums, stoats and rats from mainland Aotearoa to halt the decline of biodiversity loss. We do this by designing, adapting and refining our elimination approaches in an open, supportive team environment.
About the role
We’re looking for a self-motivated and energetic individual who can thrive both independently and as part of a small team. Your responsibilities will include surveillance, communicating observations and responding with meaningful actions that result is driving invasive predators from this landscape.
You will join our existing team of nine field rangers with a primary focus on delivering field-based tasks and will work closely with the Senior Team Lead, Operations Coordinator and the wider PFBP team.
While previous experience in pest operations is preferred, we are open to training the right candidate, especially if your qualifications have lapsed or if you have some knowledge gaps.
Tasks:
- Safety and risk management is our top priority, maintaining a strong focus on this while working in the field alone or part of a small team is critical.
- Delivering field based tasks set by the Operations Coordinator.
- Staying connected and grounded in new predator control detection and removal methods and refining existing techniques through clear, open communication within our small team.
- Developing strong relationships with the field team, wider PFBP team and landowners.
- Being actively involved in enhancing our team culture.
Key Requirements:
- Experience working in the outdoor environment. Experience and understanding of predator control is preferred but not essential.
- As work is often undertaken on working primary production systems, it is essential to understand livestock behaviours or have experience working in a rural environment.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in challenging terrain and weather.
- Willingness to learn and adapt priorities at short notice and be comfortable working in a dynamic work environment.
- Proficiency in using phone app recording devices is essential, along with the ability to keep accurate records through precision.
- Clear and empathetic communicator.
- Class 1 driver’s licence.
