Website Waikato Regional Council
Fixed- term position for 9 months
We want more good people to come and do great things with us.
We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.
Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.
We are looking for a Freshwater Advisor with interests in lake and wetland ecology to join the Natural Heritage team within our Integrated Catchment Management Directorate.
Protecting and restoring the Waikato Region’s distinctive and fragile shallow lakes and wetlands is a priority task for the Council, and our partners. Behind every informed decision lies quality assessment of our lake environments through data collection, analysis and monitoring, and the promotion and facilitation of multi-stakeholder collaborative programmes to achieve and sustain environmental, social, cultural and economic outcomes.
This role is responsible for the planning and implementation of a variety of freshwater (shallow lakes and wetlands) ecology projects related to research application, the regional shallow lakes management programme, and restoration programmes to improve the water quality and ecological health of shallow freshwater lakes and wetlands in the Waikato Region. It requires a relevant tertiary qualification and at least 5 years work experience in a related field.
We want the very best for our environment. If you have brilliant communication and organisational skills, a passion for Waikato lakes and wetlands, ability to work in complexity, enjoy office and field-based work, and the flair for innovative approaches to improving our aquatic ecosystems, you may well be just who we are looking for and we would love to hear from you.
We are offering this role as either a 9-month internal secondment, or as a fixed-term position.
