Website Department of Conservation
This is a challenging role where you will have an opportunity to lead one of our experienced Operations teams and significantly contribute to conservation as the district moves towards a new future with upcoming treaty settlements.
The Operations Manager’s focus is to lead the Operations team in the Tongariro District and to ensure the effective integrated delivery of high quality conservation outputs. The role will also provide specialist knowledge and support on local conservation activities to the Director, Operations.
As well as strong conservation management skills and experience, this role requires a ‘people leader’ who is skilled at inspiring, motivating and directing teams and who can shape a culture which values continuous improvement, team process, partnerships with iwi and working with community, business and others.
There is a strong relationship management component to this role so the ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships internally and externally with our iwi partners and stakeholders is essential.
As DOC has a strong focus on the Health and Safety of its staff and visitors to conservation sites, this role will also be charged with creating a strong ‘safety first’ environment, ensuring there is a positive safety culture and consistent safety practice across all work sites.
