He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are looking for a passionate conservationist with pest management experience. This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week, rostered over 7 days. You will assist the Pest Management Coordinator to ensure that pests are controlled within our site as well as our wider Auckland locations, including the Art Gallery, Maritime Museum, Western Springs, Mt Smart and North Harbour Stadiums, and all Auckland Live venues, such as the Aotea Centre and Civic Theatre.
While your primary focus will be to control mammal, bird and invertebrate pests, you will be expected to implement pest plant control and habitat restoration plans in collaboration with our horticulture department. Although most of your work will be done within the Zoo, the Pest Management Assistant will be expected to contribute directly to the Zoo’s conservation work outside the Zoo gates from time to time. Being an advocate for humane pest control is essential, along with being comfortable talking to visitors and volunteers about its role in conservation.
He kōrero mōu: About you
To be successful in this position, you will hold a tertiary qualification in a related field, as well as having previous experience in pest animal and pest plant identification and control.
You’ll have the ability to build and sustain effective working relationships, within and outside of your team, which will be evident in your previous work history. You will also need to hold a current full driver’s licence, with the ability to drive a manual car.
