Mō te tūnga | About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic Predator Free Field Technician carry out field activities associated with the Towards Predator Free Taranaki programme. This work will contribute to the Regional Pest Management Plans for Taranaki and the Council Biodiversity Strategy. Tasks include detection surveys to identify the presence of predators, providing guidance to landowners and undertaking pest animal control.
The role is based at our main office in Stratford but will require travel around the region during the week. It is Monday- Friday with the requirement to be call on a weekend every few months (rostered basis).
This role sits within the Towards Predator Free Taranaki team and you will receive support from the Programme Lead- Towards Predator Free Taranaki, Environment Services Manager and the Environment Services team. It is a fixed term full time role for 12 months.
Mōu | About you
You will be highly practical and have experience in pest animal control. This role is a part of a fun and hardworking team so a good sense of humour and collaborative attitude is a must. There will be weekly engagement with external stakeholders so an ability to build rapport and an an understanding of rural activities would be an advantage.
We like to set people up for success so you’ll be a leading applicant if you also have:
- An appropriate tertiary qualification and relevant experience in biosecurity / predator control
- Proven knowledge of field techniques in predator monitoring and management ie. trapping
- Knowledge of the Biosecurity Act 1993 and Resource Management Act 1991
