Project Coordinator – Whakamana Te Waituna – Invercargill

Website Whakamana Te Waituna

Fixed-term position to 31 July 2022

Whakamana Te Waituna – ensuring the wellbeing of the people, the land, the waters, the ecosystems and the life-force of Waituna.

Are you a well-organised Project Coordinator who wants to make a real difference for New Zealand’s natural environment and economy?

Whakamana Te Waituna is a $14 million integrated catchment management programme being undertaken in partnership with Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu, Te Rūnanga o Awarua, Environment Southland, Fonterra, Department of Conservation, Living Water and other stakeholders.

The Project Coordinator can be undertaken as a package of work with the Executive Director role, as an employee of one the partner organisations, or an independent contractor. There is flexibility about where you are located though you’ll be expected to come to Southland from time to time. Excellent communication skills and political savvy are necessary in both positions as you will work closely with the partners, internal and external stakeholders, who are many and varied. If you are organised, adaptable, energetic and outcomes focused then one of these roles could be just what you’re looking for.

As Project Coordinator you will need:

  • an ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with iwi
  • at least 5 years’ experience in project, or programme, management experience
  • demonstrated ability to prepare work plans and budgets and to implement
  • monitor and report following agreed on procedures
  • strong communications skills to connect across a wide range of diverse groups.

These roles both make a significant contribution to Southland’s long-term environmental and economic sustainability, so we are looking for a motivated, passionate and talented individual to join the team.

We are also recruiting for the role of Whakamana te Waituna – Executive Director.
