Website Āwhitu Peninsula Landcare
There is an opportunity to join the team at Āwhitu Peninsula Landcare as the new Project Lead for Te Korowai o Papatūānuku. This is a full-time role, though we are open to considering a job-share arrangement for the right candidate.
Āwhitu Peninsula Landcare is a community conservation group in Franklin, Auckland. Established in 1995, our vision is for a rejuvenated Āwhitu where native wildlife flourishes in healthy ecosystems, cherished and supported by the people.
Te Korowai is our revegetation project. Our team of qualified horticulturalists and committed volunteers propagate 100,000 eco-sourced native plants each year at our nursery in Matakawau. These plants are allocated to sites of ecological or cultural significance, mitigation plantings and other restoration projects. Our vision is to restore 2,000 hectares of native cover to the peninsula to protect our endangered ecosystems and species, increase connectivity, improve water quality and uphold the mana of Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua. Supporting the local community with their personal restoration projects is a critical part of our mahi.
We are inviting expressions of interest from people who are keen to move this project forward and put their own stamp on it.
Our ideal person would:
- Have a good understanding of the environment and community on the Āwhitu,
- Enjoy supporting people to achieve their environmental goals,
- Collaborate with Ngaati Te Ata Waiohua, and help to realise the outcomes in the Kaitiakitanga Plan,
- Build and maintain great relationships with our partners,
- Work autonomously, managing competing demands and pressures, and
- Be confident using Microsoft Office.
They would also have a strong background in ecology, restoration planting, nursery management, or other relevant conservation experience. Team leadership or business management experience would be beneficial.
