Te Papa Atawhai is offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated, skilled and organised person to work alongside our communities and ensure the best outcomes for conservation in Rotorua.

He angitūtanga: About the role

The key responsibilities of the role are to coordinate local involvement in statutory processes (e.g. RMA, permissions, statutory land management), and support the delivery of community-led conservation projects on public conservation land in the Rotorua District.

In this role you will:

  • Provide high quality analysis and reporting advice in relation to permissions for activities such as guiding, aircraft landings, sporting events, wildlife research as well as RMA applications and statutory land management issues
  • You will be providing support for conservation initiatives in our communities; and managing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Consult with our Treaty Partner (multiple iwi entities) on permissions and other aspects of our work
  • Manage local relationships with permit holders
  • Support and work directly with local conservation groups
  • Co-operate with colleagues and other agencies across district boundaries on statutory and other work

He kōrero mōu: What we are looking for?

To be successful in this role you will ideally have:

  • Experience in working with statutory authorities, community groups, iwi or business groups, which demonstrates an ability to think critically and remove complexity without losing context/content
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including a proven ability to write accurate, clear and concise reports
  • Demonstrated competence working with a range of private and public entities including Councils, businesses and community groups
  • A ‘can do’ attitude and proven excellent organisational skills, including the ability to balance competing demands, meet deadlines and have a problem-solving approach
  • Some experience in engaging and working in partnership with iwi and tangata whenua
  • A track record for working well both independently and as part of a team
  • A passion for protecting the environment and connecting others with conservation
  • A full New Zealand Drivers Licence
  • Experience working with whānau, hapū and iwi will be an advantage.
