We have a vacancy for a Supervisor of the team that looks after our recreation and historic assets in Franz Josef. This position leads the work programme in Franz Josef and is responsible for a team that ranges from four to seven depending on the season. The successful applicant will be a natural leader and collaborator who enjoys the challenge of working in a dynamic and changing environment.
In South Westland we pride ourselves on the quality and range of tourism, recreation and historic assets we manage. The recreation opportunities range from backcountry huts and tracks used predominantly for hunting tahr, chamois and deer, to campsites beside pristine lakes or wild remote west coast beaches, to the icon glacier valleys.
This Supervisor position is pivotal to the operations of the DOC team in South Westland. We are looking for someone who is a great team player and leader, good communicator, has a passion for the outdoors with loads of initiative to get out and get things done.
This position is critical to leading and achieving our work in the field, so a strong practical skill set is necessary. You should be good with maintenance and care for small plant and machinery, have good building/carpentry skills and an eye for detail to ensure all our assets are maintained to a high standard.

The successful applicant will have
- extensive experience in field-based recreation asset and facilities management
- sound knowledge and practical experience of recreation/historic work
- experience as technical leader/supervisor of a work team
- project management experience
- excellent competence at mentoring, coaching, training and supporting staff
- computer literacy including excel spreadsheets and asset management information system (AMIS database)
- strong health and safety culture
A full, clean driver licence and experience with trailers is essential.
Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory, including a valid work visa covering the whole period of employment if applying internationally.
