Restoration Field Team Leader – Ecological Restoration Works

Full-time, permanent position

We need experienced field team leaders with:

  • Pest plant control experience and good plant identification skills

  • Enthusiasm and passion for working in our natural environment

Wildland Consultants is a progressive consultancy specialising in ecology, biodiversity and restoration planning and implementation, and committed to the care and enhancement of our natural environment. We are looking for experienced field team leaders to join our ecological restoration team based in Auckland, with positions available in Wiri, Albany and Grey Lynn.

Wildlands undertakes ecological restoration projects across the Auckland and Waikato Regions including pest plant control, pest animal control and indigenous revegetation projects for a range of clients.

It is essential that you have a willingness to contribute and lead a team, are physically fit (the jobs are physically demanding), and have a passion for working outdoors in all sorts of weather. The work will also require staff to use agrichemicals (herbicides), animal toxins (poisons), and traps on a regular basis. This role requires technical, hands on skills and experience in vegetation and animal control/monitoring and indigenous planting.  Applicants need to be able to travel away from home for a week at a time on occasions.

Applicants must have experience with ecological restoration projects, have relevant qualifications or training and be able to demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in working in the outdoors and achieving restoration goals
  • A good work ethic and Health and Safety management in the field
  • Pest plant identification and control skills
  • Indigenous plant identification skills
  • Pest animal monitoring and control experience
  • Experience in handling herbicides and pest animal toxins including storage, transport and use in compliance with relevant legislation and best practice
  • Experience with planning, undertaking and maintaining restoration plantings
  • A team player and have the ability to work independently
  • Leading other staff by example in the field
  • Practical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Mentoring staff and undertaking/facilitating internal training
  • Good physical fitness
  • Good communication and reporting skills, as well as use of relevant computer software (e.g. Microsoft Excel) and GPS units
  • Reporting to internal and external clients.

Any applicants with CURRENT Introductory/Advanced Growsafe, Registered Chemical Applicator, Approved Handler, Site Safe, and First Aid qualifications will have an advantage. A clean full driver’s license and ability to drive manual vehicles is essential. Chainsaw and LUV/ATV qualifications would also be beneficial.
