We are looking for a passionate and experienced Senior Ecologist to join our dynamic team. This role will involve leading ecological projects, mentoring junior staff, and providing expert ecological advice to ensure high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage complex ecological restoration and environmental management projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time and within budget.
- Conduct ecological assessments, habitat surveys, and species monitoring across various environments, including forests, wetlands, and urban green spaces.
- Develop and implement restoration planting and pest control plans in accordance with New Zealand’s ecological guidelines and best practices.
- Oversee and mentor junior ecologists and field teams, providing training and guidance on ecological practices, field techniques, and project management.
- Prepare technical reports, ecological impact assessments, and recommendations for clients, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to secure necessary approvals and ensure project objectives align with environmental standards and legislation.
- Provide expert ecological input to support planning applications, resource consents, and mitigation strategies, ensuring adherence to the Resource Management Act (RMA).
- Contribute to business development by identifying new project opportunities, preparing proposals, and building relationships with potential clients.
- Ensure all projects adhere to health and safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
Skills and Experience Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in ecological restoration, environmental consulting, or related fields.
- Extensive knowledge of New Zealand’s native flora and fauna, as well as current environmental legislation and guidelines.
- Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in leading and mentoring teams of ecologists and field staff.
- Excellent technical writing skills, with the ability to prepare comprehensive ecological reports, environmental assessments, and mitigation plans.
- Proficiency in ecological monitoring tools and technologies, including NDVI, GPS, GIS, and remote sensing.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with clients, regulators, and stakeholders.
- Commitment to sustainable practices and a passion for environmental conservation and restoration.
