The Waikato has plenty to offer with some of Aotearoa’s most iconic locations such as the Whangamarino Wetlands, Pirongia Mountain and the surf mecca of Raglan. Hamilton is centrally located with excellent schooling and recreational activities all within an hour’s drive of Auckland and Tauranga.
The Role
The Senior Ranger, Biodiversity is a unique and exciting role in DOC. This role forms part of the district leadership team and is responsible for planning the biodiversity work programmes for the Waikato District. You will work closely with our treaty partners, communities and businesses on biodiversity projects across the full spectrum of pest control, species and ecosystem management. The role includes work scheduling, prescription reviews and number crunching/budget management. Lucky enough you will get to off-set the numbers with an element of field work incorporated into this role.
A bit about you
As the Senior Ranger, Biodiversity you will have a positive, outgoing personality and enjoy working within a close-knit team. You will have extensive experience in the practical management of threatened plant and animal populations and the execution of pest control operations. Your ability to think strategically and act operationally will contribute to the successful planning and prioritisation of work programmes across the district. You will be confident interacting with people from all walks of life, and the natural ability to switch between tasks effortlessly. There can be times when the workload will be high so you will need to be able to remain calm and focused and work well under pressure.
Key Skills
- Strong communicator with the ability to interpret, explain and convey complex information
- Tertiary qualification in a relevant field OR equivalent experience
- Strong project management skills
- Self-aware and agile to adapt as the role requirements evolve
- A current full driving license
