Fixed-term (5 months), full-time position
Tītoki Landcare is a growing specialist ecological restoration company and we are on the hunt for passionate and hard-working individuals to join our team as Trainee Bush Regenerators to help with our work in the Waikato, Auckland, and Bay of Plenty.
Our Trainee Bush Regenerators will be involved in the restoration of forests and wetlands through weed management, planting, and predator control. Additional tasks may include fence and track construction and maintenance, equipment maintenance and assisting senior ecologists with ecological monitoring.
No previous experience is necessary as we will teach you all about biodiversity management, and the practice of ecological restoration through our on-the-job training programme. It is essential that you are eager to learn and passionate about having a positive impact on our indigenous biodiversity and ecosystems.
Staff will be working with herbicides, traps, and pest animal toxins under the supervision of certified practitioners.
Some work may involve overnight trips.
Suitable recruits will:
- Have a passion for the outdoors and our native flora and fauna
- Have a good work ethic
- Be reliable and punctual
- Be conscious of health and safety for themselves and their team members
- Have good communication skills
- Be willing to muck in and learn a new range of skills
- Be comfortable with the use of agrichemicals and pest animal toxins
- Be able to work independently and in a team
- Not be affected by illicit drugs or alcohol
- Have their own transport around Hamilton and the Waikato.
Trainee Bush Regenerators receive on-the-job training in:
- Plant identification
- Ecological restoration strategies
- Weed management and agrichemical use
- Pest animal management – trapping and baiting
- Native planting
- Use and maintenance of hand tools and some power tools
External certifications may also be provided in:
- First aid
- Agrichemical use (Growsafe)
- Certified handler (Vertebrate Toxic Agents)
- Chainsaw
- 4WD
