It is essential that you read this before you apply and demonstrate the skills and experience you have in each of these work areas. The ranger – visitor services and support is a role that will be extremely busy in summer months. Revenue generation from our visitors is a primary task of this role. It requires an experienced, fit, energetic, highly motivated and practical person that is prepared to take on any job asked of them and complete it within set timeframes and to a consistently high standard. It could be shared by a couple, but you would need to accept not always having time off together as the work is on a rostered basis.

Rotoroa can be a high-pressure environment where the unexpected occurs on a regular basis. You must be capable of taking instructions, trustworthy, adaptable, calm under pressure, highly organised and have a strong commitment to health and safety. This is a hands-on role, and you will be expected to balance the above key work areas with operational and administrative tasks and be able to work efficiently alone but also with other people including staff, contractors and volunteers. You need strong initiative to be able to anticipate and see work that needs doing and assist with its completion whether it be mowing, cleaning a house, doing laundry or end of the month reporting.  You must be a people person and a great communicator as you will spend a considerable amount of time with our visitors.

You must be competent with Microsoft 365 and have experience with administration as you will be responsible for data entry, record keeping, ordering equipment and supplies and any other administrative support our Island Manager requires. Administration is a vital part of this role.

In return we will provide a stunning natural environment to work in, a largely furnished house, Wi-Fi, power, uniform and travel to and from Auckland by ferry. You must have a current drivers licence, ideally a first aid certificate and be a NZ citizen or have a current long term work visa. We are unable to act as visa sponsors. This job is not suited to people who have no prior experience.

Please ensure you read the job description and send a CV and a short letter to jo@rotoroa.org.nz detailing how you meet our requirements including relevant experience by 4pm Friday, 17th October 2025.

Preference will be given to applicants who are able to start by mid November 2025.
